Meet the Candidates

Candidate biographies are listed in the order in which they were received.

General election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Tara Stubleski

Occupation: Teacher

Educational Background: Masters Degree in Special Education

I am running for this seat because I care deeply about Mason. I am a Mason graduate, two of my children attend Mason and one has graduated, and I continue to volunteer in our schools. I have taught and coached in Mason, giving me the opportunity to experience our schools as a student, parent, educator, coach, and community member. I want what is right for all students.

My priorities are transparency, accountability, trust, and creating more opportunities for our students. When I don’t have an answer, I will ask questions, listen, and find it. I want families and community members to feel heard and valued.

Mason used to feel like family—a community where people trusted and supported one another. I want to help bring that feeling back, rebuild trust, and work together to make Mason a place where students, families, staff, and our community feel connected and proud.

I would bring the knowledge and experience of an educator, along with the perspective of a parent, former student, coach, and community member. I would bring a willingness to ask questions, research issues, and find answers when I don’t have them. I believe in being transparent with our community and making sure families, students, and staff feel heard, respected, and valued. Most importantly, I would bring a genuine commitment to doing what is right for all Mason students and working together to strengthen our schools and community.

One of the greatest strengths of Mason Consolidated Schools is the families and community that surround it. Mason has many close-knit, multigenerational families who have deep roots in the community and genuinely care about our schools. There is a strong sense of pride and connection, and people want to see Mason thrive. That commitment from families and community members is something special and is a foundation we can continue to build upon.

I believe the opportunities for Mason Consolidated Schools are endless if we are willing to seek them out and take advantage of them. One important priority is retaining the talented staff and coaches who are committed to our students and want to be here. We have seen too much turnover, and keeping good people should be a priority.

I also believe we need to broaden our perspective and look beyond our district for opportunities. There are programs, partnerships, classes, and resources available throughout Monroe County that could benefit our students. I would bring a willingness to research those opportunities, build partnerships, and think creatively about how we can expand what Mason offers. We should continually ask, “What more can we provide our students?” and make sure every student has opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.

Melissa Rosenberger

Occupation: Registered Nurse

Educational Background: I received my nursing degree from Monroe County Community College in 2006.

I want to serve on the Mason Consolidated School Board because I care deeply about our students, our schools, and our community. As a parent, I have a personal investment in making sure our children have the opportunities, resources, and support they need to succeed.

I believe a school board should listen to the people it represents and make decisions grounded in facts, policy, law, fiscal responsibility, and what is best for students. Parents and community members should feel comfortable asking questions and confident that their concerns will be heard and taken seriously.

My goal is not to change things simply for the sake of change, but to build on what is working while addressing areas where we can do better.

I would approach this role with honesty, openness, and accountability, while keeping students at the center of every decision.

I would bring 20 years of experience as a registered nurse, along with the perspective of a parent and community member.

My career has taught me the importance of communication, accountability, problem-solving, teamwork, and advocacy. Nursing has also taught me to listen carefully, ask questions, research when I don’t know something, consider the facts, and work respectfully with people who have different perspectives.

As a Board member, I would bring an independent voice focused on representing the entire Mason community. I believe decisions should be grounded in facts and guided by what is best for our students and district, rather than individual interests or personalities.

I am comfortable asking difficult questions and having respectful conversations, even when there are disagreements. My goal would be to make informed, thoughtful decisions that support our students, strengthen our schools, and serve our community as a whole.

Mason's greatest strength is its people. We have dedicated teachers, staff, students, parents, and community members who care deeply about our schools and want our students to succeed.

We have educators who work hard every day to support their students, along with families and community members who give their time and resources to our schools.

I also believe the pride our community has in Mason is one of our greatest strengths. We have so many people who volunteer, support school activities, and come together to help our students and schools succeed. I would love to see that sense of pride, involvement, and community continue to grow even stronger.

There is a lot to be proud of in Mason. I want to help protect what is working, support the people who make our schools strong, and continue building a community where people feel connected to and proud of our schools.

An important opportunity for Mason is to strengthen communication and trust between the district and community while expanding opportunities for our students.

Making school board meetings available online would make it easier for parents, staff, and community members to stay informed when they cannot attend in person. Important decisions should also be clearly explained so the community understands how and why they are made.

Looking ahead, I would like to see Mason expand opportunities that prepare students for life after graduation, including more career and technical education options, certifications, internships, and partnerships with local businesses and colleges.

At the same time, we need to build a strong foundation before taking on major new initiatives. That means making sure our programs, policies, facilities, and financial practices are working well and meeting student needs.

Building a strong foundation allows us to keep students first.

Matthew Jay Eurenius

Occupation: Terminal Manager

Educational Background:  Bachelors Degree The University of Toledo

I believe I can positively impact the school in my hometown, where I am a graduate, parent, and lifelong resident of the district.

I bring a positive, problem solving mindset.  I bring a certain level of pride in my town and my school.  I also bring a recognition and awareness that the board and the school have difficult issues that need to be dealt with over time.  Lastly I bring a desire to be a long term board member.

We have a small tight knit community where everyone watches out for each other.  Everyone pretty well knows each other and those who aren't known are accepted.  We have a social dynamic that lots of other area's of the county wish they had, but cannot duplicate.  We have an interesting opportunity to build on that and I believe that we can.

I believe we need to modernize in a big way.  I also think that we need to find a way to balance that with the resources we have and the best options available to us.  We also cannot let significant change affect who we are as a district.

Melissa K Fortner

Occupation: Educator

Educational Background: 1984 Bachelor's in Education, Secondary Education, with a concentration in Social Studies Comprehensive    1995, Masters in Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies

After 28 years of teaching at Mason and retiring, I'd like to give back to my community by serving on the BOE that had employed me.  During my time here, I spent many years working with the BOE as the president of the Teacher's Union, Grievance Chairman, and various other volunteer positions.  I feel that I had a great experience with the BOE and want to support the teachers and the district like I was supported.

Having over 40 years of experience in teaching, I have deep understanding of the everyday process of what makes a district successful.  After serving as the president of the Teacher's Union and the Grievance Chairman, I became very familiar with the teachers' contract and with the state laws for education in Michigan.  I can use all of this knowledge to keep our school district moving in a positive direction.

I can bring an even keeled personality to the BOE.  I will listen to the community and take their concerns back to the superintendent and other board members to resolve those concerns.  I will push for transparency as is in accordance with the law.

Someone once told me that Mason was Monroe County's biggest secret.  As a small district we can be like family and can build close relationships with the students and their parents.  Mason has caring teachers that are strong in those relationships as well as in their pedagogy.  The students are receiving the highest education that meets their individual needs and readies them for life after high school, be it college or another career choices.   We offer courses that range from those with individual needs and those that are gifted.  Through different grants and programs available, Mason is continually adding to the courses available that allow all students to have their wants and needs met.  Our success is evident in the district's high standardized test scores.

Mason has the opportunity to continue in the advancement of educational programs, seeking to reach each student's interests to become the best version of themself as they graduate and evolve as a member of society.  This begins at the first level of education in the elementary, goes through the middle school, and ends at the high school.  Each level of education plays an integral part of meeting these objectives.

Through different grants available for areas other than pedagogy, Mason has an opportunity to bring the technology for the district up to date by reinforcing the infrastructures and renovating the buildings' roofing, heating, and windows.  This can be done through continual seeking of new grants and programs that help public schools, and by being fiscally responsible in the setting of the budget.

Chandra Fowler

Occupation: Finance & Lending

Educational Background: 1996 Erie Mason Graduate, MCCC Business Management

I want to serve on Erie Mason School Board because this community and school district have been an important part of my life and my family’s life for generations. Erie Mason is personal to me. I grew up here, graduated from here, and now my husband and I are raising our family here. I’ve watched one daughter graduate from Erie Mason, and soon our younger daughter will walk through these same halls.   I believe every student deserves a path forward that fits their individual goals, whether that is college, a skilled trade, military service, entering the workforce, or becoming an entrepreneur. Being a smaller district should never mean our students have smaller opportunities.    I want to be part of continuing to move Erie Mason forward by supporting our teachers and staff, listening to our families, creating new opportunities for students, maintaining safe schools, and making responsible decisions with taxpayer dollars

I bring a lifelong connection to Erie and a genuine investment in the success of Erie Mason. As a graduate, parent, and community member, I understand how important our schools are to our students, families, and community.

I bring a practical, common-sense approach to decision-making. I am not running with a personal agenda, but with a commitment to serve our students and community. I believe in asking questions, listening to different perspectives, gathering the facts, and making thoughtful decisions.

Most importantly, I bring a willingness to listen, learn, collaborate, and do the work.   With my background in finance and business, I understand the importance of budgeting, evaluating costs, planning ahead, and making sound financial decisions. I bring that experience to the table by asking thoughtful questions, considering both short- and long-term impacts, and ensuring our resources are used effectively.   I will continue to support our teachers and staff, listen to our community, and keep our students at the heart of every decision

Our greatest strength is our people. Erie Mason is a small, close-knit community where teachers, staff, families, and community members genuinely care about our kids. Our size allows us to know our students personally, celebrate their successes, and recognize when they may need additional support.

I also believe there is a strong sense of pride in being an Erie Mason Eagle. We have the opportunity to take that community pride and continue building programs and pathways that prepare our students for whatever comes next.   Another strength is the potential we have to build on what we already do well. Erie Mason’s strategic plan focuses on academic pathways, student support, community partnerships,  and safe learning environments.

We may be a small district, but that can be one of our greatest advantages. We can work together, listen to our families, recognize the individual needs of our students, and create opportunities that allow every child to find their own path to success

One of the greatest opportunities for Mason Schools is to plan for the future while continuing to create more opportunities for our students. I would like see expansion with our partnerships with local businesses, skilled trades, colleges, and community organizations to provide students with real-world experiences and pathways beyond graduation.

We also need to accelerate the long-term plan for our aging buildings, prioritizing needs, planning for future expenses, and exploring grants and other funding opportunities while being responsible with taxpayer dollars.

John N. Waller

Occupation: District Health and Safety Manager for HPC Industrial

Educational Background: HS, Some college, FF, EMT-P, COSS, COSM

I’m running for re-election to continue the work I have been involved with since 2015, the last 2 years as a Board Member, which is to keep the school buildings and their aging infrastructure functional and safe. I was co-chair of the sinking fund construction committee and co-managed all of the projects for the first 4 years. I have an extensive background in managing Capital Projects, Risk Management and Safety and Environmental Compliance. The School is an important part of the community, and it is an ongoing challenge maintaining and upgrading the aging infrastructures on campus. There remains a lot to do, but with the use of grants and partnerships with our suppliers, we have been able to maintain a safe environment for the students. On the Academic side, we continue to see an increase in out student achievement based on our staffing and programming diversification to address current needs for students.

I bring experience in management. I currently am responsible for 85 branches in 16 states. As I said above, I have experience in finances, construction management, labor negotiations and more. I think there is a misconception that it's the Boards job to manage the day to day operations of the school. Just the opposite. We have a highly trained, experienced Superintendent, as well as Principals and support staff a to manage the schools, along with our teachers.  Our job is to support them, working to ensure stability, growth and sustainability.

The teachers, the students and the community.

To continue to grow as our community hopefully expands. We need to look at creative ways to fund replacement of our aging buildings. We are reaching a point where we are spending a lot of money maintaining when it might make more sense to replace and reduce our operating costs.

Gretchen Davison

Occupation: Retired RN

Educational Background: I have an associate degree from Owen's College

I believe the board needs an infusion of new ideas and fact based solutions. Promoting discussion and promoting ideas in a civil and professional manner. Working together with common goals. My greatest goal is to make the system work in the best interest of the children.

My experience as an Emergency nurse has taught me calm in the face of chaos and challenges. Logical and rational prioritization skills are essential. I have a great interest in working out the complex situations that our school is facing.

Mason schools is a smaller school, but diverse. Melding together in solidarity to find solutions with people we know .

Adding  more AP  curriculum is an asset we should consider . College pound students will benefit greatly. Options for the students that would rather persue a trade should have the highest level of instruction in that area. Mostly a safe environment for both students and faculty.  Both physical and emotional support.
